Deadspin Ranks Limas Sweed the 20th Worst Player of All Time

In response to the much-discussed Top 100 list of NFL players on the NFLN, Deadspin has released their list of the 100 worst players of all time, painstakingly compiled by Jeff Pearlman.

Our man Limas Sweed checked in at #20, and although the final chapter hasn't been written in his story, maybe it has. FB Dick Leftridge of the Steelers, the third overall pick in the 1966 draft, was close by at #22,  with QB George Izo, a one-year Steeler in '66, ranked #92. I guess Huey Richardson and Jamain Stephens were somehow not eligible, but narrowing the entire NFL universe down to 100 names is quite a tall task.

Consider this the rare occasion of a compilation list we're glad doesn't feature many of our own.

For the complete list: part I (100-51) and part II (50-1).

I'm not sure he was quite THAT bad, but considering his high draft slot during the evaluation, maybe he was. Still, Worley was WAY worse.

How is Ryan Leaf not #1, though? That guy is by far the biggest bust in NFL history.

Louis Lipps is my homeboy said...

Gay was being praised for settling into his role as the nickel corner early on this year.

Now suddenly, he and the rest of the secondary can't cover anyone.

C'mon people, do some math.

Aaron Smith is an elite player. He caves in that side of the line and allows the linebackers to put tremendous pressure on the QB.

No A. Smith, less pass rush,so the QB has more time, and most secondaries won't look good.

Hasn't anyone else realized that every year the secondary is solid (not spectacular, but passable) and suddenly goes downhill the minute Aaron Smith gets injured?

Or are we just going to keep blaming our #3 (yes, he's the THIRD corner) for ALL of our defensive woes??

A third corner's not supposed to be a make or break player on a football team folks.

Throw in Harrison's bad back, and Timmons being out a lot of the game, and Keisel being out the whole game and are there many secondaries at all that will look good when 4 of the front 7 are out and/or injured?

The only times Brady screwed up at all were when we somehow managed to get pressure on him.

Cut Gay, bring in anyone you want, they'll get smoked too when the QB sits back there untouched while his receivers have a ton of time to get open.

Gay's not a great player by any means, but for so many people to make the freaking THIRD corner on this team the sole scapegoat is ridiculous.

Please don't let this serve as a defense of Sweed, but Jeff Pearlman would rank pretty high on the worst sportswriters.

He writes a lot of lazy articles, and his blog is a social worker's dream.

This list was full of New York Jets (of which he reportedly is a fan), and googled names he has no clue of.

Nice premise in my opinion, but epic fail when reading it.

Agreed with BURGH08, Jeff Pearlman himself is just terrible.
