Jabaal Sheard Pleads Guilty

There's been a new development in the Jabaal Sheard case, mainly that the Pitt football standout pleaded guilty today to a summary charge of disorderly conduct in front of District Judge Robert Ravenstahl.

Sheard was ordered to pay the medical bills of the man he threw through a South Side gallery's glass door, as well as pay for the court costs and apologize to the man, 27-year-old Edward Parker of Stanton Heights.

Sheard remains on indefinite suspension from the team, but I cannot believe that he would not get a one-game suspension for his actions. I've heard some stories as to how the fight started (nothing that I could confirm or go on the record with), but whatever the case, Sheard participated in a very violent act in public that did not reflect well upon the school or the football program.

Regardless of his reasons, those types of actions cannot go unpunished, and I would expect a comment and a decision from Dave Wannstedt by the end of the week, if not sooner.

Anyone know if/what relation the judge is to our fine mayor?

Wow - he really threw the pamphlet at him. Please don't suspend this violent criminal with little regard for human life and police authority for a whole game. Hasn't he suffered enough?

Not condoning violence, but the bits and pieces I heard make Parker a pretty bad guy who was attacking a friend of Sheards......not there so I dont know the circumstances, but not sure the kid can be accused of having little regard for human life if he was defending a friend from a guy who is supposed to be a pretty violent person.....

Regardless, the judge can only accept the plea if the DA and the victim are on board with it. That should tell you something about the other guy's culpability.

Haha, abiding dude, i was wondering that too!

The circumstances would have to be extremely harsh Sheard's actions to be "reasonable". It sounds like if the police didn't arrive Sheard would have kept fighting until Parker was dead & maybe would've even fought him for a little while after that.
