Cedrick Wilson Punches Girlfriend, Gets Released

My head is spinning with today's news: Cedrick Wilson struck girlfriend Lindsey Paulat at Patron's Mexican Grill on Perry Highway in Pine last night.
In the wake of this development, the Steelers acted swiftly, releasing the wide receiver this morning. Eleven days ago, LB James Harrison, the team's 2007 MVP, was arrested for hitting his girlfriend, but he remains on the roster. Pro Football Talk brought up the possbility of a double-standard, something a lot of people will be saying today.
OK, Steeler fans, I know the opinions are raging on this topic. Have at it.

This potentially reeks of a double standard. Ced certainly has the right to file a grievance but given the past incident with his girlfriend it appears that he was given two strikes and lost.

They may have to release Harrison if he has another incident, but it is hard to say until that happens.

I am not a fan of people who abuse their significant others. However, football players are paid to participate in a violent sport and "that edge" which makes them stand out in the sport probably predisposes them to some violent behavior in their everyday life.

I certainly don't condone their behavior but I'm just saying it does not take a big leap of faith to see why these guys have trouble controlling their temper.

The couch is now closed. My head hurts from all of this “thinking” about football, but it does make for some good offseason debate material.

He earned his way off the team. Congrats, Ced.

No double standard here from my view. Every case is different and all facts need to be reviewed.

From the Rooney's point of view, Harrison was trying to take legal custody of his son for a baptism...were Harrison to have another incident that appeared to be provoked by him (As Wilson's appears to be from current reports) I imagine the Rooneys will be swift in their actions.

Yeah, I mean, Harrison's deal is bad, and Rooney's comments about it are going to get him crucified later because they'll be taken way out of context, but holy shit, you cannot walk into a freaking public place and punch your girlfriend. I mean, you shouldn't do it, period. Ever. It makes you a low-life coward. But Wilson, a known Steeler, goes into a restaurant and socks this girl? Just so stupid.

Hmmm...25 catches Vs Team MVP.

Performance most certainly is part of the equation whether anyone in the organization admits it or not...

I prefer a case-by-case approach over a "zero-tolerance" policy similar to what you see in high schools where kids are getting suspended or expelled for handing a friend an Advil or drawing a picture/writing a story that someone things is a precursor to another Columbine etc...

If nothing else the org has sent a clear message about any further violations to the rest of the team...

Rooney's comments are inexcusable. I don't care what the reason is, unless your life is being threatened there is absolutely zero reason to strike a woman.

Sheesh, who didn't see this coming? Why'd he do it in a fucking resturaunt?

And why does my CBS March Madness on-demand thing keep screwing up while I'm trying to watch the Pitt game!

Clearly there is no excuse for abusing a female, especially your baby's mama! One question is how come she was not at home with their child in lieu of hanging out in a bar she knows he drives by in his travels? Until the star struck/money hungry women find a cure for jungle fever these stories will continue to pollute the media.

Lets NOT over look one crucial point to this story. Cedrick Punched his girlfriend in the face in a restaurant where there were other people who undoubtedly witnessed this event. He went in, saw her and initiated the confrontation according tot eh reports. James Harrison's story, although saying he too hit his girlfriend, was an incident that happened in their private home thereby creating a need for an investigation of the actions as they have been stated to occur. Im sure that after the investigation is completed the proper discipline will be handed down to him as well.
